Holidays with a toddler are a real joy… as long as you’re well prepared! At Rockids, we know how much parents juggle suitcases, bottles and comforters. That’s why we’ve put together the ultimate checklist so you can set off with peace of mind, without forgetting anything.
- Essential papers and documents
Before you even think about bodysuits and nappies, make sure you have:
- Your baby’s health record (or at least a digital photo on your phone)
- Your Vitale card or mutual insurance certificate
- Your baby’s identity card or passport (yes, even for toddlers, it’s mandatory when travelling abroad!)
- Your reservations, transport tickets, accommodation details
- Useful numbers: paediatrician, on-call doctor, poison control centre, etc
💡 Rockids tip: create a small ‘baby’ folder on your phone with everything in PDF format. Practical and stress-free.
2. The special travel kit
Whether you’re travelling by car, train or plane, the journey is often the first adventure:
- A small detail that makes all the difference: a sunshade for car journeys.
- A well-stocked changing bag: nappies, wipes, a change of clothes, water, snacks, dummies, etc.
- Your baby’s favourite soft toy and a few toys or educational books
- A light blanket or a multi-purpose swaddle (perfect for everything!)
- A change of clothes… for your baby AND for you (because accidents always happen at the worst possible moment)
3. Mealtime essentials
With a toddler, every meal requires a bit of organisation:
- Bottles, powdered milk or baby food jars, depending on your baby’s age
- Special spoons, bibs, bottle brushes
- A compartmentalised measuring cup for milk or cereal
- A portable high chair or foldable booster seat (very handy at restaurants or when visiting friends)
- A water bottle or non-spill cup
🍴 Rockids tip: prepare a small ‘quick meal’ kit with all the essentials at your fingertips. No more frantic searches at motorway service stations!
- Bedtime essentials
It’s not always easy to maintain a regular sleep routine on holiday, but a few essentials can really make a difference:
- A travel cot or folding bed
- One or two sleeping bags (suitable for the local temperature)
- A comfort blanket, of course, and possibly a cloth or T-shirt with your scent on it
- A baby monitor if you are staying in a large space or with relatives
- A spare dummy (because it always ends up under the bed)
🌙 Rockids tip: if possible, do a few ‘test’ naps in the travel cot at home before you leave. This will help your baby feel comfortable in it once you arrive.
- For washing and care
Minor injuries don’t take a holiday, so it’s best to pack a complete toiletries bag for your baby:
- Enough nappies for the journey (and a few extra ones in case of unforeseen circumstances)
- Wipes or liniment
- A mild cleansing gel, moisturising cream, nappy cream
- A small first aid kit especially for babies: thermometer, paracetamol, mineral sun cream, saline solution, sterile compresses, etc.
- A bath cape or large soft towel
- A baby hairbrush, nail clippers, cotton wool, etc.
🧡 At Rockids, we believe that travelling with a toddler is above all a question of anticipation, but also of flexibility. Even if you forget one or two things, the most important thing is to be together, to share and to create beautiful memories.
