There is no single “magic formula” for supporting a child. That’s why, at Rockids, we have chosen to draw on the most influential trends in active learning to create a rich and balanced environment.
Here are the three pillars that inspire our daily work:
1. Maria Montessori: “Help me to do it myself.”
Montessori education is based on independence and self-confidence.
- The idea: Children learn through experience and at their own pace.
- At home (and at our center): We adapt the environment so that children can access their toys or clothes on their own. We don’t do things for them, we guide them so that they can feel proud of their achievements.
2. Emmi Pikler: Free movement and respect
The Pikler (or Lóczy) method focuses on respecting the child’s physical and emotional rhythm.
- The idea: A child does not need to be taught how to roll over or sit up. They will do it themselves when their muscles are ready, if they are given a safe space.
- The importance of care: Diaper changes and mealtimes are experienced as moments of intense connection and mutual respect.
3. Reggio Emilia: The child with “a hundred languages”
This approach sees children as natural-born researchers, gifted with multiple means of expression (painting, dance, building, speech).
- The idea: The environment is considered the “third educator.” Everything is designed to stimulate curiosity and creativity.
- Nature: Reggio places a strong emphasis on exploration and natural materials.
Why does Rockids draw inspiration from these teaching methods?
At Rockids, we do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We prefer a project-based teaching method that adapts to each child’s individual circumstances.
- Thoughtfully designed spaces (Montessori): Our facilities are designed to encourage independent exploration. Equipment is placed at child height, promoting freedom of choice.
- Respecting the child’s pace (Pikler): Our educators practice free movement. We let children discover their own motor skills without forcing them, which boosts their self-confidence.
