“It’s already 30°C at 9 a.m. … and your baby is fussy, clingy, and hard to soothe.”
During heat waves, toddlers are particularly sensitive to the heat. Their bodies aren’t as good at regulating temperature, and they don’t always know how to express their discomfort.
Why are babies more vulnerable?
Their bodies contain more water but sweat less efficiently. As a result, they become dehydrated faster and overheat more easily.
Good Habits for Everyday Life
- Offer drinks very regularly
- Avoid going out between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Dress them in light clothing (cotton, loose-fitting, light-colored)
- Keep rooms cool
- Give lukewarm baths if needed
Adjust the pace
Days should be calmer. There’s no need for constant stimulation: rest becomes a priority.
Sleep During a Heat Wave
The heat often makes it difficult to fall asleep. A well-ventilated bedroom early in the morning and calm bedtime routines help immensely.
